Why is Health Important?
Health, regardless of in terms of mental or physical, plays a vital role in our everyday lives! A person that is healthy mentally may not always be physically healthy, and vice-versa. As a result, it is important to be able to recognize different health factors and how to act in specific situations.
Mental Health is a Pressing Issue
What is Mental Health?
Mental health is defined as the emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing of an individual. Most notably, it affects how each person thinks, feels, and acts. Currently, it is estimated that 1 in 5 adults in America experience a form of mental illness.
Mental Illnesses Come In Many Forms:
Today, mental health issues are prevalent in various different forms. For some, it may be in the form of anxiety. For others, it may be in the form of depression or bipolar disorder. This also means that the extent to which it influences the affected individual also varies. Overall, there is no one definite limit or definition on what qualifies as a mental health illness. Mental Health Resources:
If you or anyone you know is currently suffering from a mental health issue, know that you are not alone! The most important step is being able to recognize your situation and being unafraid to ask for help. Today, there are many resources available to help in these types of situations. From reaching out to your school’s mental health center (such as CAHMS at Harvard) to using public resources (such as the SAHMS or Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration Hotline), know that help is out there!

Exercise & Physical Health:
Did you know? Exercise can have a major effect on an individual’s physical health! For example, it has been proven that consistent exercise can help significantly improve one’s memory. Similarly, besides blood pressure, cholesterol can also be lowered through regular exercise. Additionally, exercising consistently has the power to boost your immune system, thus helping you get sick less often! Studies have shown that exercising helps prevent some signs of aging. Overall, this helps to show how exercise plays a major role in an individual’s physical health.
